Its pleasant maritime climate without extremes of temperature make it a year-round holiday destination for those looking for activities such as camping, birdwatching, hiking, fishing and scuba diving. The island has many deserted beaches and secluded coves, mountains and nature reserves. 

Its southern peaks are protected by Strzelecki National Park, which also encompasses a stretch of pristine coastline.
