This charming coastal resort is a great base for visiting Adelaide and the surrounding region. Glenelg’s popular tram makes the short 20 minute journey to Adelaide’s Victoria Square throughout the day – the original vintage trams run during holidays. Take a stroll along the jetty, or explore the fashionable shops and sidewalk cafés on Jetty Road. At the beach, you can hire wave skis, try windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and fishing, or head to Holdfast Shores Marina for a dolphin cruise.

Stunning Kingston Park Coastal Reserve is a great spot for a picnic, and home to Kingston House – the oldest building in Holdfast Bay, built in 1840. On the foreshore of the reserve, a monument by South Australia sculptor John Dowie marks one of the significant ‘spring’ sites on the Tjilbruke Trail, and a boardwalk leads south to Marino Rocks. Bay Discovery Centre, at Glenelg’s historic Town Hall, has an excellent display tracking the history of Holdfast Bay. Just south of Glenelg, along the Esplanade, the seaside hamlet of Brighton is another favourite beach playground with a delightful village atmosphere.
