Just 78km south of Brisbane, Surfers Paradise is one of Australia's best known surf beaches and the most famous of the Gold Coast's stunning string of beaches. Crowds of visitors and surfers flock here year round to enjoy the wide sandy beach, the sunshine and the sand. There's plenty to do off the beach as well. Surfer's Paradise boasts world-class shopping, superb restaurants, cafes and a lively nightlife to keep you entertained after the sun sets.

Cavill Mall is the main shopping and dining precinct, and the large Paradise Centre has games and rides for all ages. Hang out at the Hard Rock Cafe or pay a visit to the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum. On the water there is jet-skiing, sailing, surfing and swimming, while on land, you go for a spin in an off-road buggy, have fun on the amusement rides, check out the races on Saturdays or browse for arts and crafts at the Friday night markets.

History

This ritzy world-renowned tourist destination started life in 1923 as the humble Surfers Paradise Hotel, built by a Brisbane developer on a block of land which was purchased for the grand total of forty pounds (eighty dollars). It is now the site of Cavill Mall.
