Georgetown Travel Guide
Georgetown accommodation, Georgetown activities and attractions, Georgetown maps, transportation to and around Georgetown - the Jasons Georgetown Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Georgetown.
Georgetown is located on the Savannah Way, which links
Cairns to
Broome in
Western Australia. During the days of the Etheridge River goldrush, Georgetown was a bustling commercial centre. Remnants of the goldfields are scattered throughout the region with gold nuggets still to be found – the 27oz Providence nugget was found south of Georgetown in November 2002.
This nugget is now on display at the Terrestrial Centre, along with an extensive local, regional and world mineral collection. The town has shady parks with free electric barbecues, a free swimming pool, a river walk for birdwatchers, pub, motel, caravan parks, fuel and roadhouse facilities.
